We're Home Owners!

From time to time I share things about my personal life on the blog and this just so happens to be one of those times. The Thinking Chick and I just became home owners for the first time. It’s been a roller coaster of a ride, as we’ve been working on buying this place since the end of July. But last week it finally closed and for the first time in our lives we own a home!

It was a hard decision for us. We’ve been debt free for seven years (living overseas has been good to us) and it’s a great feeling knowing that you owe no money to anyone. But the timing was right and it made sense for us financially as an investment to buy a place that we can fix up and possibly rent out in the future.

We ended up buying a condo in downtown Seattle. We spend our summers traveling around the state of Washington and for the past 8 years have stayed with family and friends never having our own place. We both love Seattle and even after visiting over 30 countries we both feel it is one of the most beautiful places on the planet.

The condo is in pretty bad shape on the inside which is why you are only getting pictures of the views. 🙂 We’ve nicknamed it “The Hole” because of the shape that it is in. The interior will be easy to fix but these views… can’t fix that!

We’re excited and I’m hoping to set up a blog in the near future that will house the photos as we gut and redo the entire interior of the condo over the next year and a half (our goal anyway). We’re in no rush which is nice so we can save our money and fix it up right.

Oh, and most importantly I will now be spending my summers approximately a 25 minute walk from Safeco Field. Ah… is good!

I started blogging in 2005 and found it such a powerful way to reflect and share my thinking about technology, this generation, and how we prepare students for their future not our past.

  2. Congratulations, it’ll make it easier to meet up in the summer. Do you think we can convince everyone else to get a place in Seattle? It the best place to be in the summer.

Goog timing on the market, I wish you all the best.

    • Thanks Brian!

It will be good to be able to spend longer than four nights in the same spot in the summers. We might even be able to unpack our suitcases….something we haven’t done in 8 summers. Hopefully we can meet up.

  3. Congratulations and good luck! What a wonderful thing for you two. Sounds like you’re going to thoroughly enjoy home ownership.

    • Thanks….yeah to have a place we can actually call home will be nice. We’re still in the shock stage that we actually own a place. 🙂

  4. Congrats. Ivars! More coffee places than you can count. Pike Street Market. Great cycling. I’ll be whistling the tune “If I had a Hammer…” today in your honor.

    • Thanks Lisa,

And we’ll be needing that hammer. So looking forward to the coffee shops and just hanging out in downtown Seattle in the summers. Such a great city to just be in.

    • Thanks!

We’re looking forward to it. I just purchased tickets to go home this winter. It will be our first winter break going home in 8 years! We’re looking forward to it!

  5. So happy for you both! Hopefully one day I’ll have a place of my own, too! I’m not sure if I’ll have views like yours, but that will be my goal! Beachfront is for me!! The only problem is I don’t have a million bucks to afford it!

  6. Congrats Jeff and Daneah! I like how you can see a building crane in your view. May you never be homesick for Shanghai, 😉
