Feels good to be home

So I’m in my David Warlick mode at the moment after an uneventful flight back home to Shanghai (Uneventful is a good thing!). It’s 4:00am and of course I’m jet lagged, no better time to catch up on some of the reading I’ve missed in the last couple weeks. I have a laundry list of things I want to finish before school starts on August 18.

  • Get Moodle 1.6 up and running: Worked on this over the summer and completely frustrated. I might have finally reached that point that I’m completely in over my head. But 30 teachers and 500 students are getting ready to use it this year so I better figure it out fast or my names mud.
  • Up date the Thinking Stick web site. Maybe a new theme and new colors. Wanted to get this accomplished over the summer, but time was against me.
  • Oh yeah, and there are those classes I have to teach this year. HHHMMM, better get something together for them.

But first things first. A big cup of coffee and make an appointment for a foot massage later today (1 hour=$7.50). 😉

I started blogging in 2005 and found it such a powerful way to reflect and share my thinking about technology, this generation, and how we prepare students for their future not our past.

  1. Hi Jeff,
Now it’s back to reality for you after jet-setting all over the world. It sounds like you have a perfect alibi (out of country) so that we shouldn’t suspect that you and your baseball bat had anything to do with slaughtering the 50,000 dogs over there. I’m guessing you don’t have a dog yourself (any more).

Just wanted to tell you that when our delegation was over there in June we all (15 of us) went together for a foot massage while in Xi’an. OMG!! What an experience. Most of us were complete newbies to that bizarro world of fm. It was one of those excrutiating pains that you enjoy the heck out of. I have no doubt that if I made that a regular practice that my stress level would be greatly reduced. Take care and good luck with the Moddle thing (hope BlackCT doesn’t sue your ass). Barry

  2. Dear Mr. Scofer 🙂

I always wanted to reply to one of your blog entries, but felt like a total goober doing so while you were here (in Washington). I’m glad things went well for you on the way back and don’t envy the jet lag.

I thought your last blog entry about the school filters was right on. The internet is similar to a gun. It can be a useful tool if one is taught how to use it safely and ethically, but can be devastating if children are left to explore on their own. It would be absolutely wonderful if children were taught to use the internet wisely!

Take care and good luck getting all your stuff done. ~H
