This Tweet from Sarah came across my screen yesterday:

twitter message by you.

So here you go…a list of plug-ins we have running here on our WordPress MU 2.6.3 install. Please note that this site has been created for teachers to communicate with parents. As of now that is its function within a larger picture of a learning/communication portal we are creating here.

This is a list of installed plugins so far. If you have others that you feel are must haves please leave a comment as I’m always looking for ways to make this a better platform for teachers.

I started blogging in 2005 and found it such a powerful way to reflect and share my thinking about technology, this generation, and how we prepare students for their future not our past.

  2. Nice setup!

Is there a clear cut decision as to what is placed onto the open wiki as opposed to moodle’s wiki?

    • There is nothing that is clear cut…and I think that’s the way it should be. Each situation is different….

That being said I tried to use the Moodle wiki with 5th graders today and it was horrible. Might have to switch the whole project over to the Apple wiki which isn’t fully set up yet…..

      We’ll see what happens.

  3. I’m curious why you decided to use WordPress for blogs rather than the blogs that come along with the Apple Wikis? We’ve been using the Apple blogs for student writing. They aren’t as customizable as WordPressMU, but they’re pretty simple for students to maintain. I’ve used Moodle wikis a few times and found myself repeatedly frustrated. I find Wikispaces and Apple wikis work a whole lot better.

  7. Hello I’m also around wordpress used for education. I like many of the solutions set out here, although I do not like Moodle, perhaps is impossible not to use it, at the moment. Regarding the use of elgg, I also have found it very usable, but perhaps buddypress can do the same and we saved a step, a data base, etc.
Finally, somebody here has ideas about how to use wordpress as a gradebook, although he is gradebook very elementary (to store notes of the students in its account as user of wordpress)

  8. Choosing an online school or course is not as easy as it seems. Basic guidelines to choosing the right online program for you include checking the credibility of the degree. Often people are duped into courses that are not accredited and hence get no recognition in the job market. Are there strict time restrictions on completing assignments; or does the online course provide for a flexible learning path? Are you required to visit their physical site at least one time during the course?
