Teacher Talk

I’ve been spending a lot of time offline lately. We’ve been in the States for about a week and have been spending time talking with friends and family. It’s been good spending time disconnected and connecting with people we only see for a couple weeks each summer.

On Saturday my mother had an end of the year staff party for her staff (She’s an elementary principal). It was interesting to overhear the conversations around education and their school. I came to the realization no matter where you are in the world Teacher Talk is something we share in common. Whether it is that kid that drove you nuts, that student that made great strides, or just reflecting on the year that was. The stories where fun to listen to and it was great to watch the staff unwind after another successful year.

Take time in these coming weeks to reflect, tell the stories that made your year special, and just enjoy completing another year. That’s what I have been doing this week, knowing next week is NECC and from there I’ll start thinking about the coming year and projects. It’s been great to take this week to reconnect with friends and family and just….be.

Update:
My 2 year old  niece just left. She is two and can operate the CD player, put in her own CD, push play, turn up the volume and follow along in the book. I think I’m the only one in the family who keeps saying “How cool is that?” She’s growing up digital…which I think is a good thing!

I started blogging in 2005 and found it such a powerful way to reflect and share my thinking about technology, this generation, and how we prepare students for their future not our past.

I keep saying “how cool is that?” too!!! Maddie can get on the computer, drag the mouse to bookmarks and load her own blog to show family all of her pics! She’s now figured out which buttons to push in which order to reach the “ON DEMAND” section of Comcast which is where her favorite cartoons reside. How old were you when you learned to use a mouse? I was in 7th grade Jeff!!!! Congrats on the SAAB!
