I partner with organizations in helping to understand the changing nature of learning by working together in long-term, embedded professional development that prepares us all for our future, not our past.

Go outside and make friends

On Deck Podcast Last week I sat down with the kids in my elective class who run teentek.com and podcasted a session with them about the class and the Microsoft Surface. At about the 8 minute mark one of the students says something to the affect that:

“Parents don’t get it. They think we need to go outside and ride our bikes to make friends like they did. We make friends by blowing each other up.”

We were talking about MMORPG and how these social-games are different from the everyday flash games that kids play to, in their words, “waste time.” It was an interesting conversation for sure.

I started blogging in 2005 and found it such a powerful way to reflect and share my thinking about technology, this generation, and how we prepare students for their future not our past.
