Moving up

I haven’t been as active as I would like to be lately. With the end of the school year looming and moving into my new position has left a long list of things to do. In my new role I will be based at the Pudong campus about 2 hours from the where I live now, so my wife and I have been busy the past 3 weeks looking for a new place to live downtown. The view from our new apartment is amazing and the reason why we decided on this particular one. 31 stories high overlooking downtown Shanghai.

So starting Monday I will be blogging from my new home office with this view. Now if that isn’t inspiring when thinking about the future I don’t know what is. A couple of landmarks for you. To the far right you can make out the Jin Mao tower and the Oriental TV Tower. To the left you can see a small pond. That is Xin tian di (shin tan de) a major expat hang out. From this location it’s about an hour bus ride to both the Pudong and Puxi campus. Seeing that my job has me on both campuses next year makes this a prime spot. So hopefully after Monday with my new 2mb ADSL line (paid for by the land lord) I will have time to relax enjoy the view and have time to ponder.

I started blogging in 2005 and found it such a powerful way to reflect and share my thinking about technology, this generation, and how we prepare students for their future not our past.

  1. Hi Jeff,
I’ll be traveling to China next week with a bunch of higher ed educators from Minnesota. A few days in Shanghai, then a few in Xi’an, then a few in Beijing. You probably get tired of questions like this, but do you have any suggestions of places where I can shop in Shanghai with a goal of bringing back something that will really wow my wife? She’s big on jewelery and even bigger on bargains.
Also, even though we are clearly going to experience the Chinese culture, I wonder if there is any place in Shanghai where we would be more likely to run into other Americans. Any thoughts? Thanks much, Barry
