Moodle ran Student Council

MoodleI had the Vice Principal approach me last week about Moodle. She’d been hearing the buzy from the faculty who have been using it and wanted to learn more about it. I made her an administrator of the site so that she could view classes and see the learning that is taking place within the site. Later she made an appointment with me to talk about Moodle we sat down and she gave me her pitch about creating a course for the Student Council. Where the officers would be the “teachers” of the course. Setting up forums to discuss different topics, or surveys to get a sense of where the whole student council stood on an issue, and overall to keep themselves organized with the calendar and such. What a great use of this powerful tool She can monitor as the students govern themselves, even creating chat sessions outside of school where the whole chat is logged and can be referred to later as meeting notes. I’m watching this one closely, but my gut is telling me we have a winner with this one.

Students learning to govern themselves in an online digital space? Priceless!

I started blogging in 2005 and found it such a powerful way to reflect and share my thinking about technology, this generation, and how we prepare students for their future not our past.

  1. We had a *blast* watching our kids use Moodle to talk about all the things they were thinking about our new school. Have fun with it!
