Help a Newbie get to ISTE10

Beth Still grabbed me at NECC in Washington D.C. this summer and introduced me to Richard Byrne who was attending his first NECC conference. We had a nice chat and Beth reminded me that Richard was here because of her Newbie Project. 2010 ISTE Newbie Jason Schrage

She told me then and there she’d be hitting me up to spread the word when the new newbie was chosen. This year Beth is sponsoring Jason Schrage, as she tries to help bring another person to ISTE10 this year in Denver.

Beth writes about Jason:

Jason is an 8th grade social studies teacher in upstate New York. He is not afraid to try different tools and applications with his students. He has some fantastic ideas for projects that he wants to do with his students. However, what strikes me most about Jason is his complete lack of fear of failing. Fear of failure paralyzes most teachers in their tracks, but it seems to push Jason to work to find a different solution. He is a problem solver in the true sense of the word.

I don’t know about you but that’s exaclty the kind of educator I want to be meeting at ISTE10 this summer. Beth has already raised over $800. Half of what is needed to sponsor Jason. I have a couple bucks in my Paypal account (thanks to Google ads on this blog) that I’m throwing Jason’s way and hope you too can find a couple of spare pennies to toss into the jar. If we all throw in a couple I know they’ll add up fast. 🙂

      Jeff,
Thank you so much for helping promote awareness about this project. I hope that the Newbie Project has given people an example to use when showing the positive things that can come from professional networking. All too often networking is seen as a waste of time, but I don’t know anyone who can look at this project and say that nothing good will come from it. Jason will learn so much this summer at ISTE and I know he will share so much of that with his colleagues. The entire point of the project is to “pay it forward.” Who knows when or where his impact will end.
