I agree. But we do this by focusing on the skills they can use, not by focusing on a world that may not exist. I really do understand the idea of looking to the future, but, while we throw "prepare" around pretty consistently, we need to remember that our kids already live in a world and they need skills to live in that world. I agree. But we do this by focusing on the skills they can use, not by focusing on a world that may not exist.

I really do understand the idea of looking to the future, but, while we throw “prepare” around pretty consistently, we need to remember that our kids already live in a world and they need skills to live in that world.

I don’t want to prepare for the future without building a foundation in the present.

When I was in school, I remember my technology teacher introducing a mouse to the class and we all laughed at him. If you provide students with skills that can be utilized in a multitude of different ways, their education becomes a transportable gift. The world can change and reinvent itself ten times over if we educate today's students to think and become life long learners. . .that is how teaching and learning with technology can make a difference. I think we get into trouble as educators when we convince ourselves that our students live in some sort of time bubble when they leave school. We pretend that they don't need to apply what they're learning with us until "tomorrow." That's simply not true. Aren’t we preparing them for the world of today?
