Blooking

(Via Cool Cat Teacher blog) comes Blooking a term that is new to me, but means a blog in book form. Using a web site like Lulu Lulu lets you take control of publishing. Publish a book for free. Set your own royalty. Publish books, ebooks, music, or images for yourself or the marketplace. ISBNs and expanded distribution available.you can take your blog entries and turn them into a book. This is powerful stuff. Not for me, but for students. Thinks about the authentic power this holds for student bloggers. You blog your experiences, thoughts, assignments for a year, and then at the end of the year you publish a book, that is available to sale to billions of people around the world. This is just another motivative factor in having students blog, produce quality work and have an authentic reason to do assignments. If I were a high school English teacher, I would seriously consider this as an option.

We are also looking at lulu as an additional fundraiser for the annual staff – they can put photos on a DVD for the year and lulu can market that and send the annual staff a markup.

We are looking at publishing a poetry book and a book of critical essays with proceeds to provide upgrades in the English department!

The online newspaper plans to go through a year of blogging and then create a blook! This is the greatest boone for school publishing and students! It is so exciting!
