I love this stuff

So I’m sitting in class right now with my 7th graders. They are busy working on their digital stories that on Thursday we will upload to youtube.

For those of you who might be out of the loop, youtube is THE site right now for teenagers. They are all over that site. Myspace is dead and youtube is it. Of course they still use myspace, but that’s not what the buzz is about.

So we have been talking about the history of computers, and as a project the students could pick any piece of technology, person, or company and tell their history through a digital story. Tapping into their world of youtube, we will publish these digital stories to youtube under my account. I’ll make sure to post some of them here. There are some really good ones starting to come together.

Thanks to David Jakes recommendation of Photo Story 3 and then putting together easy to follow tutorials on his site. The kids are off and running. Here’s the cool part. I don’t have a clue how the software works. I gave the students David’s site and told them to figure it out. They’ve done just that, helping each other to learn the program and do what they need to do to complete to project.

Teachers need to take advantage of our students today. You as a teacher don’t need to know the software, find some ‘how to’ on the Internet give it to the kids and let them go.

Digital Stories next Thursday!
